Kurt Ala-Kantti was named Music Director of the Cumberland Community Singers, beginning with 2005-2006 season, previously having been a member of the choir, served for two years as Alternate Director, and Interim Director for the Spring of 2005.
He is also the founder and director of the Harmonia Choir of Ottawa , a choir he started in 2003 to promote and perform the music of Canadian and local composers in addition to traditional choral music, is Director of Music at St. Thomas the Aposlte Anglican Church, Artistic Director of Cross Town Youth Chorus, and Music Director of Tone Cluster. In the past, he has served for several years as Assistant-Director of the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir, directed by Dr. Barbara Clark, was Director of their Young Men’s Chorus, was Choirmaster at St Mark's Cumberland, and has served as Director of the Atlantic Voices and the Ottawa Brahms Choir. He is a member of the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors (ACCC) and the American Choral Director's Association (ACDA)
With a keen interest in choral performance
and excellence, he has been a member of several local choirs
including the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir, under Dr. Barbara Clark, the
Ottawa Choral Society, under Brian Law,
and is currently singing professionally as a member of the critically acclaimed Ottawa Bach Choir,
with which he has performed
in Ottawa, Toronto (Roy Thompson Hall), Montreal, Nova Scotia, Mexico City,
Austria, toured Germany, England and France and debuted at Carnegie Hall in 2011.
